Jean (Hans) Arp
This is called Untitled (Automatic Drawing), and as specified by the artist, much of his work is arranged according to the laws of chance. In other words, spontaneous and irrational production--hence the "automatic." Whether a truly irrational piece or one truly created by "chance" (as with his Untitled (Collage with Squares Arranged According to the Laws of Chance)) is possible is debatable. However, that seems to be the goal. We may find subconscious tendencies or repressed ideas in this drawing simply because the artist actively attempted to create it spontaneously and without conscious, cognitive interference. This is really the product of the human being's subconscious flow, as I see it. Also, I like how the piece ended up looking very organic, almost like natural plant formations or anatomical gland illustrations.
